Artists on Tour is a nomadic, collaborative project focused around the ideas of mobility, place, community, exchange and an expansion of contemporary art beyond Museums and commercial galleries.
We are a mobile studio collaboration. For us place is not a fixed location, it is a conceptual space created for dialog and conversation. Through these dialogues about design and utility, we are creating a portable, mobile, and modular studio space that can expand or contract according to need.
Artists on Tour represents our effort to expand our individual and collaborative visions and use them to foster a dialog with communities in the world. We are a cross-media interdisciplinary team of artists whose backgrounds vary from traditional painting sculpture and photography to more conceptual, performance and experience based art. As a group we have no fixed number of participants. We expand and contract according to site and artist availability for specific dates.

“High Desert Test Sites is a series of experimental art sites located along a stretch of desert communities including Pioneertown, Yucca Valley, Joshua Tree and 29 Palms. These locations provide alternative, free space for experimental work by both emerging and established artists.
The HDTS mission is to challenge traditional conventions of ownership, property and patronage. Most projects will ultimately belong to no one, and they are intended to melt back into the landscape as new ones emerge.
The High Desert Test Sites is a project organized by Andrea Zittel, John Connelly and Andy Stillpass.”
