The Spirit Girls at High Desert Test Sites
Marnie Weber’s conceptual art band “The Spirit Girls” is based ona narrative fiction that Webber has been working on for the last several years. “The Spirit Girls” are a group of girls who allegedly died in their youth in the 70’s and have come back to share their message with the earthbound folk. For High Desert Test Sites, they will perform a highly visual 40-minute set featuring songs from their recent album, “Forever Free”.
The Spirit Girls are a group of girls who perform together in a band, die tragically and then return as spirits to communicate their message of emancipation. The band was inspired in part by the American Spiritualist movement of the 1850’s, which is credited with giving women their first public voice as “performers” in this country.
The Spirit Girls have given several live performances over the past few years. Most recently the Spirit Girls have released a new CD, titled Forever Free, which explores the story of the Spirit Girls through music and lyrics.
The Spirit Girls are: Marnie Weber: lead vocals, guitar, keyboard; Dani Tull: lead guitar; Tamara Sussman: bass, keyboards, backing vocals; Debbie Spinelli: drums; Sachiyo Yoshimoto: violin; April Guthrie: cello; Tanya Haden: cello, backing vocals; Christian Cummings: saw.
