Gold Nugget
The desert has so many stories: traces of rushing water in the gouges of huge boulders, meteorites that can be found by dragging a magnet, 500 year old spit, petroglyphs, rusted beer cans, an empty shoe full of sand. They add to each other and stand as singular things. They are eternal and always ready to crumble and disappear. I wanted these golden nuggets to somehow weave into this Joshua Tree history, interrupt it or add to more looking and questioning of the landscape. I wanted them to suggest an eternity. There were several and some were perched above Andrea’s house, dropped like Easter eggs. I could spot them through the week they were displayed some catching the sunset light, others lost baking sentinels.
