Monster Tree
The collaborative kinetic sculpture Monster Tree combines Fabienne’s graphic language with Christy’s inflatable monuments. The sculpture was inflated during a performance in which Christy, standing alone in the desert, beaconed the beast with Theremin music. Fabienne emerged from the crest of a hill, suitcase in hand, emanating beats that accompanied the space-age noise. Fabienne coaxed the multi-headed monster, constructed of custom-printed ripstop nylon, from the suitcase as consecutive elements—branches and body parts—filled with air. The nomadic beast, which resembled a Joshua Tree, swayed and thrust its way into the desert landscape, serenaded by the melody of “Summertime” on the Theremin.
