Circumstances
Over a two-acre site at the end of Hidden Paradise Road, north of the town of Joshua Tree, I spent a week tunneling under 6 large boulders.
After tunneling completely under each boulder, I tied a single strand of black yarn around it, knotting the yarn below the rock and replacing the dirt that had been removed.
An arrangement of stakes at the entrance to the site directed viewers to the rocks scattered over the hillside. The length of yarn from the central stake to the guideposts reflected the cirucmference of the rocks which had been traversed.
Documentation of the series is presented as a series of paired photographs, the two photos in each pair representing the front and back of a single boulder.
