Rubble Division
Rubble Division is a three-part project. The first stage is Rubble Division at the Aspen Fourth of July Parade. The second stage is Inverse Parade and the third is Rubble Division Interstate.
Inverse Parade happened at HDTS 5 in Joshua Tree, California. The piece reversed the constructs of a typical parade, with the panels of the float fragmented and dispersed along the side of the road and the spectators moving through space in a 15-person van. The piece operated as a stop frame animation where the van served as a moving camera aperature for the audience – framing the panels and sounds of the Meat Bees (Tim Rogeberg and Joel Searles).
For Rubble Division Interstate the panels from Inverse Parade were reconfigured into a road worthy, high velocity, nomadic sculpture. With the ability to cannibalize and regurgitate itself, the float was broken down and reassembled daily. The Rubble Divison was a seven person army including Katie Grinnan, the Meat Bees (Tim Rogeberg and Joel Searles), Dawn Kasper, Noah Wolf, Spencer Stair and Robby Herbst. The piece toured ruins, recycled architecture, and political sites across the country. The thirteen stops included Rhyolite and Las Vegas in Nevada, the Wupatki ruins, Crawford, Texas and Washington DC. The piece was part of the show Interstate: The American Road Trip curated by Andrea Zittel, Alyson Baker and Robyn Donnahue. The show commenced at High Desert Test Sites in Joshua Tree and ended at Socrates Sculpture Park in Long Island City.
