Nugget Rodeny
Nugget Rodeny, 2006, was an action on the salt flats in the High
Desert. This work gradually transported three dancers from the space
of the audience to a disappearance from view into the horizon. The
most difficult single source for movement to achieve this, I thought,
was a simple gesture. I discovered “found” movements in each dancer’s
body that reflected habitual aspects of themselves while they stood
around with “nothing” to do. It was these small items that served as
the basis for all of the movement in the piece.
The title came from a yellow sign on the side of the road that
I kept passing on my way to the site during visits to the desert. So
even the title was found material.
